Style: Thai - When you think of traditional Thai restaurants, fluorescent walls and playschool-style fittings hardly spring to mind. Well, Ying Thai is a little different.
Ambience: The quote above sums it up well! Not the prettiest of interiors and very bright!
Price: One of the cheaper places on Lygon Street. Starters $7; Mains $10-15.
Details: Outdoor Seating, Licenced, B.Y.O. Additional seating upstairs. Located just up from Queensberry Street and the right-hand side. Very close to a couple of other curry houses.
Special Comments: Cheap and cheerful. Go there for the food (only). Gelati place almost next store (heading towards the top end on the same side).
Member Ratings and Comments:
Rather bright and tacky decor downstairs and very basic upstairs. That said, it was probably the cheapest place we have been too. The bill worked out at just $20 p.p. Roti was good, rice came in a plastic bucket.
Standard, nothing special. Very cheap though.
Prompt service, great food, and a companionable group - the right 'ingredients' for a good night out!
good fragrant curries
UFO's (unidentified fried objects) were average
gelati was great
