Style: Indian. I did not actually have a look around and we were close to the entrance. To enter the restaurant you walk down a set of steps; it is a basement just below street level. It is a clean and pleasant enough interior, although tables towards the back are probably a little cosier.
Ambience: Good; not too noisy.
Price: Pricey: Mains $18, naan, rice $3.20. Beers start at $5 but go up to $7. ( menu )
Details: Open Mon-Sat. Opposite Mitre Tavern and Bank House. Note that the Mitre Tavern does not open on the weekend, although the Irish Times just around the corner in Little Collins Street is open from 5pm on Saturdays. There is also a basement bar opposite called "Marakech" (or something similar).
Special Comments: This is a new place, opened November 2006, so I didn't find much in the way of reviews about it. It is recommended though, see comments below.

Impeccable service and good food. The menu is essentially along the lines of 'traditional English' Indian. The vindaloo was hot, but without bring tears to the eyes.
With mains at around $18, this is one of the pricier curry houses. That said, it is in the CBD.
Very decent, good service and certainly better than a slap in the face with a wet fish.
Great food, great surroundings.
I LOVE the food at this place. I've been back a couple of times since and not been disappointed. Even at lunchtime the food is great, which hasn't been the case with the other CBD restaurants I've visited at lunchtime (Gaylord's and Nirankhar). My last lunch there was a chicken Madras which was more firey than I was expecting from a Madras, but with incredible flavour and just fantastic.
Speaking to the owner at the end of my meal I discovered that he used to be part owner of Nirankhar when it was at the bottom end of Queen Street (it's now located just north of Bourke) which would have been back when we originally went there.
The only downer I remember from the evening was discovering that The Mitre Tavern is closed at the weekend, which is frankly just criminal.
A really good answer, full of ratoinailty!
