Dhakar Restaurant    [cast your vote]

Style: Indian. Small, but semi-cosy niche amongst several other restaurants and eateries in the city.
Ambience: The Taj Mahal it isn't, but there again the food is good and well-priced.
Price: One of the cheaper eateries, at least in the city. Mains are about $12.50.
Details: Near the corner of Russell Street.
Special Comments: Worth a visit if you are in the city and want a lunchtime snack or something more before going on to a pub or the theatre.

Now, this is based on just a couple of starters, but they were good. We had a couple of beef rolls (somewhere between a barrito and a kebab). They also brought out a complementary butter chicken for our toddler (which I enjoyed), so they get the thumbs up as kid-friendly.

Good food and good service.
The place is obviously more oriented for takeaway as the seating area is very small, however the food was very good and we were all comfortably seated and well looked after. At the end when the girls asked if they did Chai, and if it was homemade, or made using tea-bags they said it was homemade to their own recipe. The chai, was brought out and enjoyed, and given for free, which made us all the more appreciative.
I'd heartily recommend the place, and have already recommended it as a lunchtime venue to some friends that work around the corner.
The beef roll was as Iain said, like an Indian souvlaki, and really nice.
The only negative that I could say for them was that it isn't a stylish restaurant, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as a venue for a party, function, or first date. However, for this last, I'd say it depends on who you're taking out. My last first date was at a KFC, so I'm not one to judge. The food more than makes up for the decor.

Very nice food with a good variation of tastes.

More authentic than many other places. Good value for money.

The Kenny G soundtrack made it for Jacob. As for the rest of us we had to contend with fantastic food & very obliging service in a place you would not expect either unless you went in & gave it a go. Good discovery.

Sep27 I think the film protest is very much like the Dutch caradtoon inciaddent, in that only a small someadthing is neeedd to provoke. On the one hand, the deaths are comadpletely caladlous and fooladish — the vioadlence has become far more damned than the proadducer of the movie. To read of Pakadistani chiladdren citading anti-American speech leaves me in horadror. Is this what today’s leadaders (not just in govadernadments, but among mothaders and fathers) want to fosadter, a new genaderadaadtion of hatred?Still, on the other hand, I wonadder how non-Muslims will change their peradcepadtion. It would be for the worse if Islam becomes even more negadaadtive in the views of the outadside comadmuadnity. After all, hatred will only beget hatred, don’t you think? I hope at least a few peoadple will come to their senses abouta0this.
